Montelukast sodium, is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene CysLT₁ receptor, which is widely used for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma.

• Dosage and administration

  Adults

  Aged 15 years and older

  Indication	Dose	Dose
  Asthma	10 mg	Once daily in evening
  Symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis	10 mg	Once daily in evening
  Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction	10 mg	At least 2 hours before exercise
  Seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR)	10 mg	Once daily in evening

   

  Paediatric

  Aged 6 to 14 years

  Indication	Dose	Dose
  Asthma	5 mg	Once daily in evening
  Symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis	5 mg	Once daily in evening
  Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction	5 mg	At least 2 hours before exercise

• Contraindications

  Hypersensitivity to any component of montelukast.
